”Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is bust a a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer.” -Thomas Paine, Common Sense.

This is a bit scary. Indeed, “we furnish the means by which we suffer” strikes a chord because we, the people, empower the government. Not only have we, the people, given the government all the power that it has today, but we’ve also provided the hand cuffs and the chains and the whips by which we are oppressed — whether it’s the first lady trying to regulate what we eat or the federal government forcing you to buy health insurance to be a lawful citizen or whether we, the people, give the government (through elected officials) the means to spy, wire-tap and imprison such “individuals” that the government deems as “threats” to the government through the Patriot Act.
(In the traditional sense, I agree, that this more times that not refers to “terrorists” but what does it mean or what could it mean for the future?!)
I’ve got news for all the conservatives out there who supported the Patriot Act (and my news is not good news, as you may have suspected).
Once our government transitions (or goes through that “fundamental transformation”) from a Republic to a socialist nanny-state, then all conservatives will, by definition, become enemies or “threats” to the newly established form of the socialized government. Via the Patriot Act that so many conservatives have supported (giving away chain and the whips), our government is now authorized to select you, the conservative, as a “threat” to the government; in which our government is fully permitted strip you, the conservative, of your constitutional rights, hold you indefinitely and/or do whatever the government pleases to neutralize the “threat.”
Why is the government able to do such a thing?! Very good question. BECAUSE the conservative is, by definition, diametrically opposed to socialism and we, you and me both, are subjected surreptitious examination, detention and/or investigation.
We return full circle. Society, in every state, is a blessing. But when the government meddles in the private affairs of society, the government (whether forcing a redistribution of wealth of where you pay taxes for the government to give that money to others who have not worked for nor do they deserve that money on the merits, or forcing you to buy health insurance to be in compliance of being a citizen or forcing you do community service for the government in an indoctrination program) the government is a necessary evil. BUT, when government is in it’s worst state, it’s an intolerable evil and our calamity is heightened by reflecting on the fact that we have allowed such a government to be birthed and have allowed it to grow in power against our wishes.
Is the current government the government you want?!
If not, what do you plan to do to restore government to the scope and intent of the Founding Fathers — where freedom and prosperity abound?! (After all, the Founders did create the greatest nation that the world has ever known…)
